Gender Equality Committee met in Manchester to set future priorities

18 Jul 2025

GEC members and special guests shared their work plan in Manchester on 3 July, focusing on the analysis of needs and opportunities for training women leaders.

The results of a survey conducted among GEC member organisations on training needs for women leaders in cooperatives were presented, with responses from 21% of the member organisations.

The priority topics identified were: Leadership, Empowerment, Public Policy, and Strategic Communication. A preference was also shown for in-person workshops and practical experiences. The survey also inquired about potential strategic allies to promote these training processes, highlighting academic institutions, international cooperation agencies, and women's ministries in each country.

The need to focus efforts on the issues of the care economy was addressed, recognising the importance of valuing unpaid work.

This is because it is important for cooperative organisations working on this topic to highlight their progress. In this case, it was proposed that this year's activities or themes focus on this care approach.

The GEC is also promoting campaigns to raise awareness of the impact of gender equity, one through stories of women and their actions linked to the care economy, and another linked to the United Nations 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign.
