The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is calling for culture to be recognized as a standalone goal in the post-2030 sustainable development agenda. This vision will take center stage at the third edition of Mondiacult, UNESCO’s landmark conference on cultural policy and sustainable development, to be hosted in Barcelona, Spain, in 2025. Mondiacult, first convened in 1982 and held again in 2022, has become a pivotal platform for shaping global cultural policy. In 2022, the ICA, working with its Global Committee on Cooperative Law, its regional office for the Americas, and the sectoral organization CICOPA, organized a well-received side event from the premises of Smart Cooperative in Belgium.
This year, the ICA will once again partner with CICOPA as well as key cooperative actors from Spain, to host a side event focused on positioning cooperatives within the post-2030 Agenda. The ICA Working Group on Cooperative Cultural Heritage will present its ongoing work, while cooperative education and identity will feature prominently in the discussions.
Pre-registration for UNESCO Mondiacult 2025 is open until 15 September 2025. https://premondiacult2025.eventszone.net/
Members interested in participating in the ICA side event are invited to contact the ICA CCH Working Group Secretariat at kumar@ica.coop before the same date.
