SomosCoop: a campaign seeking to raise awareness of the importance of cooperatives in Brazil

23 Feb 2018

OCB System in Brazil has recently launched the SomosCoop movement. It is inspired by the global co-operative marque and guides co-operative members to register and use the co-operative identity. The campaign seeks to raise awareness of the importance of co-operatives in Brazil and make people proud of the cause they have embraced. The messages are being spread by TV, radio, radio and internet, and also included in the brochures cooperatives use for promotion.

Its main objective is to connect co-operatives, co-operative members and the society around a single cause: building a fairer and more balanced Brazil, with more opportunities for everyone, promoting the economic and social development, joining forces and sharing results.

“And, because we believe in this differentiated proposal, we work every day not only for the growth of co-operatives in Brazil, but for Brazil itself,” says Márcio Lopes de Freitas, President of the OCB System. “Today, the co-operatives account for 13 million Brazilians, who work now for a country of the future. And we are not alone. Our data show how much we have progressed to make it a reality. Our cooperatives play an important role in the national farming production. Almost 50% of everything that is produced in Brazilian farms involves an agricultural co-operative.”

The SomosCoop movement is showing what the co-operative movement is about, its different way of doing business, its values and philosophy.
