The Global Youth Forum Cooperative Entrepreneurship 2020 (GYF20) will take place in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia from 3-7 February 2020, in the framework of the ICA-EU partnership #coops4dev?.
For this first edition, the GYF20 aims to bring together young entrepreneurs and professionals from all around the world to offer them quality training sessions to improve their skills and knowledge. The entrepreneurship training approach is expected to lead to new solutions and recommendations, to help the participants learn from best practices and to foster new ideas and innovation in the field of youth and cooperative entrepreneurship.
200 participants and 40 trainers have been selected to take part in the event.
The event will be hosted by Angkasa and is supported by Fédération Nationale des Caisses d’Epargne (FNCE) and the International Summit of Cooperatives.
What will happen during those five days?
The event will be held at the Riverside Majestic Hotel, in the heart of Kuching. Participants will be hosted in the same venue.
High-level plenary sessions
The GYF20 will be opened and closed with a high-level plenary session focused on the importance of youth and cooperative entrepreneurship. These sessions will bring together all the participants and important keynote speakers from the Malaysian government, the United Nations, European Institutions, International Labour Organization as well as with representatives from youth organizations and the cooperative movement.
Interactive sessions and discussions
The GYF20 will present approximately 4 blocks of 15 parallel cross-cutting sessions per day. Each session is specifically designed to help young entrepreneurs and professionals improve their knowledge and skills through interactive workshops, hackathons, brainstorming, Q&A and “how-to” sessions.
Those training sessions will be structured around the following topics: IT and social media; social issues; environmental issues; SDGs; business models; methodologies (Training of Trainers, storytelling); law; finance; leadership, management, and HR; and networking.
Social areas and meeting spaces
Participants will have access to different meeting spaces through the venue where they will have the opportunity to share ideas, work on possible partnerships, exchange impressions, network, etc., with their fellow colleagues. Some spaces will also be dedicated to informal discussions in a more relaxed atmosphere.
Action Zone
The action zone will feature different stands showcasing successful projects and ground-breaking reports on youth entrepreneurship and incentives from all around the world.
Outdoor and leisure activities
The host, Angkasa, is putting together different outdoor activities for participants to learn from and about the cooperative movement in Malaysia, as well as about Sarawak.
For instance, an optional visit tour will take place on the 7th of February 2020. Participants will visit a Coop School to learn about the Malaysian cooperative movement and discover local cooperatives, and get immersed into the local culture of various ethnic groups at Sarawak Cultural Village.
